Once again, Ben finds himself on the receiving end of a lot of anger.
Once again, he finds he has had a hand in creating a form of
communication, meant to close the distance between people, which
has caused a lot of harm.
Woman after woman comes to him in
I-Talk sessions, venting their
anger and frustration with the way they were manipulated by Gya
Mon's web site.
The scene starts getting ugly...
Again, Ben tries to defend himself. He tells one woman, "Look, I only
wrote the software. Gya Mon had complete control over the
day-to-day operations."
The woman's face in the monitor is streaked with tears of rage. She
says, "But Gya Mon is totally unapproachable. I couldn't face
him again if I wanted to."
Ben powers down the computer. He turns and sees that Julia has
been standing in the doorway.
Julia says, "I wasn't the only one."
"No, you haven't been the last," Ben assures her.
Julia spits, "I should have pressed charges."
Ben says, "You couldn't have."
"What do you mean?" Julia says with contempt.
Ben, seeing himself being attacked again replies, "There are no laws
against you sitting naked on a
FEEL-U-FEEL-ME pad in San Francisco
and talking to Gya Mon sitting naked on a pad in Denver."
Julia shivers at the memory. "What can we do? We have to stop
him."
Ben cautions her, "It might not be pleasant for you, but we can stop
him."
Julia asks, "How?"
Ben explains, "I think he's ready to go after bait... Do you want to
help me get him? You don't have to..."
Julia just looks at him in silence.
Ben asks again, "Do you feel up to being shark bait, Julia?"
Julia begins slowly, "It depends." Then looking straight into Ben's
eyes and in a deadly serious tone, "Do I get to watch him get it?"
Ben asks, "Do you want to?"
Julia's whisper is barely audible, "Yes."
