In Kamioka, in the proton decay observation tank -- all is silence as usual.

================

On the Oceanic observation ship, the weather is calm, it steams steadily ahead. Below, the monitors are illuminated with views of the deep ocean canyons and the songs of the whales.

================

In Kamioka, "... Ping" -- the event occurs. Just the most minute flash of Cherenkov light from out of the darkness.

================

In Larry's office, he receives initial 3-D data models of the proton decay event as they are posted on the Web site. The event mostly follows theoretical predictions, but not quite. The scientists are scrambling to explain the anomalies. The model they are building has robust formal structure, but the details are a bit ragged.

=================

On the ocean vessel, the scientists are picking up unknown bursts of conversation among the whales. They relay their sound channels in audio streams to animal behaviorists at labs on the mainland.

In the Underground Cyber-Orgy, the participants simultaneously receive the impression of a shape in their minds. It is a torus-within-a-torus-within-a-torus -- an infinite number of coaxial surfaces which loop back on themselves -- the hypersphere. But it is not simply a hypersphere, for the shape suddenly turns itself inside-out, an infinite manifold stretching to infinity.

Those adept at digital sculpture quickly express in hard data that which they have seen only in their minds. They post images and VRML objects on their web sites.

Larry is in Feel-U-Feel-Me, studying the scientific data from the Kamioka event. As he works, he accidentally come across the pictures people on the net are forming of the 'whale talk'. It is a startling discovery. The 'whale-talk' shape has the same mathematical symmetry as the Kamioka event. The shapes have the same structure, but the 'whale-talk' forms are more elegant and refined. Somehow, the people in the Feel-U-Feel-Me Cyber-Tantra have stumbled upon a the mathematical perfection of the theory the physicists constructed through high science.
